Breast cancer becomes an increased risk for those who have had transgender procedures and need to take high doses of oestrogen regularly. Oestrogen is linked to the growth of breast cancer and anyone taking high dosed must have expert medical supervision.
Individuals who have undertaken transgender surgery and are taking high doses of oestrogen, must also have regular mammography and ultrasounds. If any abnormal breast cancer symptoms are noticed, immediate specialist medical attentions should be sought. It is essential that post-surgery when fully healed, the person should have breast cancer screening on a regular basis. The apparent aggressiveness of breast cancer in the transgender post-operative population, may be due to the late diagnosis, rather than the true biological severity of the cancer.
