Breast Pathological and Translational Research Unit
Asset 11-8.png

The  Breast Pathological and Translational Research Unit is located at the Queen Sirikit Centre for Breast Cancer (QSCBC),  on floor 2.  The department consists of full-time specialist breast pathologists and scientists who provide  pathological  investigations, cytology and biopsies. Difficult breast cancer cases can be referred to the QSCBC

for investigation and expert opinion.

-In July 2017 the QSCBC, became the first institution in Thailand and in the region,

to install Nanostring Technology, (Pam 50 test). In 2020 to further benefit the Pam 50 technology, the QSCBC added the Digital Spatial  Profiler ( DSP) to the laboratory.

This advanced methodology, gives an analysis of a patient’s breast cancer gene profile and categorizes the results into low, medium and high-risk groups (i.e. the risk of future  tumour recurrence). The low risk group can be excluded from having unnecessary chemotherapy, so this new technology is an aid to planning a far more specific treatment plan geared towards the individual, rather than a ‘blanket’ treatment approach. This combined technology enables the QSCBC team to investigate the roles

of the microenvironment around malignant tumours, which is an extremely

useful too to tailor the treatment according to the patient’s particular need.

This plays a significant role in the QSCBC’s immunological programme.
