International Collaboration: Queen Sirikit Centre for Breast Cancer Marks the 1st Anniversary of Bhutan’s First Breast Cancer Centre

Her Majesty the Queen Mother Sangay Choden Wangchuck of the Kingdom of Bhutan presided over the ceremony commemorating the first anniversary of the establishment of the Breast Cancer Centre at the Gyaltsuen Jetsun Pema Wangchuck Mother and Child Hospital in Thimphu, Bhutan, on 13 September 2026.

On this occasion, Dr Kris Chatamra, founder of the Queen Sirikit Centre for Breast Cancer, together with Khunying Finola Chatamra, honorary adviser to the Queen Sirikit Centre for Breast Cancer, were officially invited to attend the ceremony marking the first anniversary of the establishment of Bhutan’s first Breast Cancer Centre.

Dr Kris and Khunying Finola attended as partners who have played a vital role in establishing and continued development of the Centre in Bhutan. Their support has included the provision of essential medical equipment, including a 3D mammography and ultrasound machines, as well as the organisation of advanced specialised training programmes for healthcare professionals in breast cancer care. These programmes have made it possible to develop professional expertise and strengthened multidisciplinary knowledge among physicians, nurses, radiographers and biomedical engineers, and have continued from 2022 to the present day.

This partnership represents another meaningful initiative by the Queen Sirikit Centre for Breast Cancer, empowering women in Bhutan through the sharing of medical expertise and knowledge.
