QSCBC PINK PARK

Dr Kris Chatamra
Founder of Queen Sirikit Centre for Breast Cancer and Director of Queen Sirikit Centre
for Breast Cancer Foundation
"This project is immensely beneficial to underprivileged and helpless terminal breast cancer patients, while also serving the greater public interest of the nation. It plays
a crucial role in reducing hospital bed shortages, as many patients are unable to return home for recovery due to environments that are unsuitable for medical care. Regrettably, a significant number of patients are forced to seek shelter under overpasses or in hospital corridors during their treatment. Pink Park Village, a project by the Queen Sirikit Centre for Breast Cancer, therefore serves as a vital sanctuary for these patients. We provide comprehensive, state-of-the-art medical equipment and ensure that these terminal breast cancer patients receive the highest standard of care
from specialized nurses."
"Pink Park Village" is an initiative of the Queen Sirikit Centre for Breast Cancer, King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital, Thai Red Cross Society, founded by Dr. Kris Chatamra. The project serves a purpose far beyond being a Hospice Centre for terminal patients;
it also functions as a Convalescence Centre for those undergoing treatment, a Breast Cancer Care Centre, a Learning & Training Centre, and a Diagnostic Centre. Every activity held at Pink Park Village is dedicated to the well-being of all Thai women.
*All proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to the Pink Park Village
project without any deductions for expenses.

Pink Park Village was established on 121 rai of land, donated in 2008 to Dr. Kris Chatamra through the Queen Sirikit Centre for Breast Cancer Foundation in memory of
Ms. Tangdum Swangphon. The primary objective of the project is to provide care for underprivileged and destitute terminal breast cancer patients. This sanctuary serves those who require post-operative recovery and physical rehabilitation, as well as those seeking a residence while undergoing treatment at the Queen Sirikit Centre for
Breast Cancer. Furthermore, it offers palliative care for end-of-life patients.
The project aspires to be a haven of compassion and understanding, supported by
a multidisciplinary team of experts providing close supervision. Eligible patients from across the country are selected by a special screening committee, focusing strictly on those in greatest need. All services are provided free of charge, with initial screening facilitated by the Thai Red Cross Society branches nationwide.

The first phase of Pink Park Village has been completed, currently accommodating 16 convalescent patients and 16 terminal breast cancer patients. The facility is fully equipped with comprehensive amenities, including a pharmacy, medical examination rooms, and staff quarters. In the next phase, we plan to establish a Breast Cancer Rehabilitation Centre. This centre will offer holistic physical and mental recovery, occupational therapy, and physical therapy. It will also promote the learning of new skills and activities, enabling low-income patients to sustain their livelihoods and enjoy a high quality of life after completing their treatment. Furthermore, we are the first institution in Thailand to provide a formal nursing training curriculum specializing in convalescence, palliative care, and end-of-life care, specifically to serve patients at Pink Park Village.
For over 20 years, we have been dedicated to caring for underprivileged and destitute patients in Bangkok’s overcrowded communities. Our direct experience has highlighted the urgent need for a safe and hygienic medical facility for post-treatment recovery. Many patients are unable to return to their homes due to unsuitable living conditions, which often leads to prolonged stays in intensive care beds. This creates a bottleneck, as those beds are critically needed for new surgical patients.
Moreover, many terminal breast cancer patients cannot be discharged because their home environments are inadequate for proper care, potentially leading to a painful and undignified end of life. Consequently, Pink Park Village was established to serve as a convalescence home, a cancer rehabilitation centre, and a hospice for patients nationwide—particularly those with limited financial means. Through close collaboration with the Thai Red Cross Society’s nationwide network and a rigorous screening process by the Foundation’s medical committee, we ensure that our assistance truly reaches those in the greatest need.
Before the Queen Sirikit Centre for Breast Cancer initiated its outreach program to provide education on breast cancer to underprivileged women in slum communities, the only solace we could offer them in their final moments was a single bottle of rum
a desperate measure to help alleviate the agonizing pain they had to endure.
Sister Joan Evans, who has worked alongside the Queen Sirikit Centre for Breast Cancer for many years in the most impoverished slum communities, has strongly emphasized the urgent and vital necessity of having a proper medical facility like Pink Park Village.

The Queen Sirikit Centre for Breast Cancer Foundation serves as the primary fundraising body to support various initiatives of the Queen Sirikit Centre for Breast Cancer, including 'Pink Park Village'—a sanctuary for terminal breast cancer patients. This project has received exceptional support from the private sector: Sansiri Public Company Limited,
a leading Thai real estate developer, managed the entire project on a pro bono basis. Furthermore, PLandscape (PLA), an internationally renowned design firm, volunteered
to design the entire landscape. Notably, the design of 'Pink Park Village' was honored
with the 'Outstanding Award' in the Social and Community Health category at the 2018 International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA) Awards. Although operational funds for the first three years have been fully secured, the project continues to require ongoing support for its long-term maintenance and operations."
"As landscape architects, we view our role in the 'Pink Park Village' project not only as
a great honor but as a reaffirmation of our belief in the power of 'Nature as a Healer'
to soothe and restore the spirit. We have dedicated over half of the project’s area to landscaped gardens and plan to expand this with organic farms and orchards in
the second phase. This success was made possible through the collaboration of all sectors—working together to create an environment defined by dignity and compassion.
From individuals donating trees via our website to contractors providing materials and equipment at cost or free of charge, Pink Park Village stands as a true testament
to the power of collaboration and community spirit."

An Environmentally Conscious Project
Pink Park Village is established on 50 acres (approximately 121 rai) of donated land, with the highest priority placed on environmental stewardship and ecological sustainability. Since 2015, the project has implemented a systematic flood prevention foundation by recontouring the landscape and constructing embankments around the entire perimeter. The master plan features two large reservoirs excavated to serve as rainwater harvesting sources, ensuring the sustainable irrigation of the trees
and green spaces throughout the project. Crucially, all infrastructure, buildings,
and environmental developments have been made possible solely through
the generous donations of our supporters.
